Hope you all had a great Spring Break. I spent last week in NYC and it was AWESOME! I’ll fill you in on some things about the trip this Thursday at DRL.
This Thursday we’re going to do our fourth “Kingdom Relationships” message…this time on dating (and singleness). I’ve gotta tell you - I’m a little nervous about this one. Its a tuff one for me because I’ve had such a broken view of dating and relationships in the past and I’m still striving to renew my mind in that area. Here is my question for you - what are some good, godly tips on dating and relationships you’ve heard in the past, or learned from experience you’d like to share? Or, if you just have some random thoughts on the subject that you want to put out there for us to consider. Or, if you have a specific question about dating or courtship or singleness, go ahead and ask it. Maybe we can help one another out on this one.
Hello, this is Jon Bricker. Welcome to DRL's official blog page! I will post various topics each week with thoughts & ideas to share with you. Please register to add comments on any topic. Look forward to hearing from you. God bless!

I have been told by several people that it is important to guard your heart when you are in relationships with people of the opposite sex whether it be as friends or if you are dating. . .I’m not certain I know what that means!

Everyone is going to have a different opinion on the dating subject, and the method they choose may work for some but not for others. I’m not a love-doctor and I never had an interest with dating. However, if I’m to commit to a girl, the first thing I’m looking for is if we are both on the same page in our pursuit for the love of God. I also desire for us to be able to work together in growing spiritually in Christ and in helping others do the same. I want us to be a blessing to the world by working together to bless others. People have known me to be a very enduring person and I would desire a future wife that would stick it out for us in better or worse and would honor the covenant that both of us are desiring to make before God if marriage is in the future. In other words, God must be the major player in any relationship, no matter what! After this mandatory criteria, I am much more vague in my desires, a character trait that I believe we should adapt to in order to broaden our acceptance of a spiritual partner. I think that it is wise to keep an open mindset in your love interest’s differences (yet you don’t have to accept differences that are obvious turn-offs or warning signs). I think that if you find yourself growing more into desiring the other’s differences and they are doing the same, a bonding may be in the future for you. Some people also say that you shouldn’t date a friend. Why can’t a man’s love interest also be his best friend? It would be hard to make a future marriage work if you are struggling with putting your partner before your other friends wishes or your own personal desires. Besides, one of the criteria of marriage is to become one spritually with your partner, right? Would you disown your own flesh for your passion of other desires?
For any viewers of my comments, remember that what works for some may not work for others. The best answer is to let God guide you. If He doesn’t lead you anywhere, then you can’t go wrong with a solo bonding to God alone! He knows what’s best for you! Again, I am not a love-doctor, but I try to analyze using a Biblical common-sense perspective. I personally waive your right to sue me over a failed relationship after taking this advice! Good luck and God bless!
